Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need insurance?

Yes, travel insurance is mandatory for all visitors to Zanzibar. This insurance must be purchased from the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation (ZIC) and costs $44 per adult (aged 18 and above). Children aged 2 to 17 receive a 50% discount ($22 per child), and children under 2 years old are insured free of charge. The insurance is valid for the duration of your stay, up to 92 days, and provides coverage for emergency medical expenses, evacuation, baggage issues, and more.

We recommend purchasing the insurance before traveling to Zanzibar through the official website: visitzanzibar.go.tz. If you choose this option:

  • Travel with proof of insurance purchase.
  • Ensure your travel documents are up to date and easily accessible.

Alternatively, the insurance can also be purchased upon arrival at the airport in Zanzibar.

Tourist visas for Zanzibar can be obtained online or upon arrival. To avoid delays, we recommend applying online in advance via the official Tanzanian Immigration website: visa.immigration.go.tz. The visa costs $50 per person and is valid for 90 days.

Please ensure:

  • Your passport is valid for at least six months from your arrival date.
  • You have proof of ZIC insurance purchase, which is also mandatory for entry into Zanzibar

The ideal time to visit Zanzibar depends on your preferences:

  • High Season (June to October and December to February): These months offer clear skies, pleasant weather, and are perfect for outdoor activities. However, they are also the busiest times with higher prices.
  • Low Season (March to May): Known as the rainy season, this period offers lower prices and fewer crowds. If you don’t mind occasional rain showers, this can be a quiet and budget-friendly time to visit.
